Guidelines for the Qualification Examination

To register for the Qualification Examination, the student must have completed at least 50% of the minimum required credits in coursework. The examination must be held, at maximum, 90 days after registration. I ask that you pay attention to the Janus deadline for registering for the qualification examination. Do not leave it until the last minute. The student must register through the sisdefesas system (https://sisdefesas.fmrp.usp.br/), together with their advisor, to nominate names for the composition of the Master’s/Doctorate Qualification Examination Board, at least 15 (fifteen) days prior to the registration deadline for the qualification examination.

The form must be compulsorily dated and signed by the advisor.

The Examination Board must be composed of 03 (three) members: 03 (three) full members and 03 (three) alternate members (Ph.D. holders), distributed as follows:

  1. One full member and one alternate member must belong to the advisory board of the Community Health Program at FMRP-USP, with the full member serving as the president.

  2. One full member and one alternate member must be from outside the unit (understood as individuals with no functional relationship with FMRP, not accredited as advisors, and not responsible for coursework in the Program to which the board refers).

  3. One full member and one alternate member may be from within the institution or from outside.

Note: The advisor and co-advisor may not be part of the Qualification Examination Board.

For the Master’s Program:

After registering in Janus, the student contacts the secretariat via email to find out if their board has been approved. The suggested Board will be submitted for evaluation by the CCP (Program Coordinating Committee), which will be subject to approval and may undergo changes. Afterward, the student contacts the accepted members to jointly decide on a date and time for the examination and sends this information to the email ppg.sc@usp.br along with their research project in PDF, and the Google Meet link created by the student for the qualification examination.

The secretariat will create the invitation for the approved members and will forward it to them via email, along with the project, the invitation containing information about the student’s name, project title, date, time, and the examination link.

The oral presentation, in a public session, will have a minimum duration of 20 (twenty) and a maximum of 30 (thirty) minutes, followed by an oral examination by the examining committee.

For the Doctorate Program:

This monograph must be prepared in the form of one or more scientific articles, not necessarily published, authored by the student, containing results obtained from the development of their Doctoral project.

The co-authors of the scientific article(s) presented in the monograph may not be part of the Examining Committee, and the student is required to present the names of all authors.

The research project, including the timeline, must also be presented.

For the Direct Doctorate Program:

The objective of the qualification examination in the Direct Doctorate program is the same as in the Doctorate program. The Examination will be carried out in accordance with the Doctorate rules.
