It addresses studies on the design, characteristics, and the central role of Primary Care and Family Health Strategy in the organization and management of the Unified Health System. It covers health assessment research, self-care, and assistance in the community.

Epidemiology and Biostatistics
This line of research addresses epidemiological studies of different methodological designs having in common the study of health problems in populations, factors, and conditions of the health and disease status, quality of life and treatment adherence. The line also includes the development and application of statistical methods aimed at the analysis of epidemiological studies.

Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
Health Promotion and Disease Prevention is dedicated to teaching, researching, and extending concepts and solutions so that people, families, and communities can achieve a comprehensive and sustainable state of health. In this line of research, studies and interventions on the health-disease process are developed, considering the scenario of its primary determinants and life cycles. It covers health promotion practices, prevention of diseases and health problems, studies of gender, sexuality, and various aspects of reproductive health, such as pregnancy, abortion, contraception, and STD/AIDS prevention. In this line of research, issues related to child growth and development, adolescence, adulthood, and the aging process are also studied.
